Clutch repair and services

The majority of people assume that the purpose of the clutch is just to put the car into neutral, however there's more to it . The clutch is the main component that mechanically engages and disengages the engine from the transmission and the rest of the drivetrain.

How a Clutch Works

While the engine is running, it is constantly spinning. If the engine is not spinning, it would stop running and shut down. This rotational power is transferred by the transmission to the driveshaft and, in turn, to the wheels. Since we can't have your transmission and wheels to be spinning all the time (the wheels are stopped when you are idling at a red light, for example), the main purpose of the clutch is to disengage the transmission from the motor. This allows us to come to a stop as well as unload the internal gears so we can smoothly change gear.

Clutch Service & Clutch Replacement

Since it is a friction-based mechanism, the clutch is designed to wear down over time. However, since it is a consumable item, its repair is not difficult in comparison to the more complicated transmission repair. Other common problems include a leak in the hydraulics, air bubbles in the hydraulic line, and stretched cables.
